About Columbus Jazz

What is Columbus Jazz?

We are America’s oldest nonprofit dedicated to jazz performance and education. Founded as the Jazz Arts Group in 1973 by Ray Eubanks, our mission is to advance and celebrate the art of jazz.

What Performances Can I See?

Columbus Jazz has is home to the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, led by trumpeter Byron Stripling, which has more than 20 mainstage performances at the Southern Theatre every year. If you are more into that jazz club vibe, check out Columbus Jazz Presents at the Lincoln Theatre, which features electric small group performances both locally renowned and internationally acclaimed.

How Do I Buy Tickets or Subscribe?

Subscribing is the best way to enjoy a Columbus Jazz concert. You get the best seats (every time), the best price, no extra fees, discounts on add on tickets and tickets to other performances, and more! When the savings are just the beginning, savoring the swing is so much sweeter.

To purchase single tickets, visit the performance calendar here and select your event or contact the CAPA Ticket Center by phone Monday through Friday 9am-5pm at (614)-469-0939 or visit them at 39 E State Street to purchase in person. Fees for single tickets vary by purchase path. For the lowest fees on single tickets, we recommend visiting the CAPA box office in person at 39 E. State St before your desired show or at the Theatre’s Box Office on the night of your desired performance, just know seating might be limited purchasing day of.

Are There Any Outdoor Concerts?

Yes! Every summer, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra has a three concert series at the Charles and Charleen Hinson Amphitheater in New Albany. In addition to these swingin’ nights under the stars, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra also performs around Columbus at the GCAC Arts Festival, Jazz & Ribs Fest, and kicks off their season with a free concert at Bicentennial Park every September.

Columbus Jazz also has a free family concert series, PBJ & Jazz, which hosts four shows at the Downtown Topiary Park in the summer.

What Family Programs Are There?

Jump, dance, and play at PBJ & Jazz free family concerts. With four free concerts at the Topiary Park in the summer and five free concerts at the Columbus Metropolitan Library in the fall and spring, your weekend plans are set. Learn about the basics of jazz and American music in an interactive and engaging way made for the whole family to enjoy.

What Student Opportunities Are There?

Get involved in the Columbus Youth Jazz program! Our tuition-free, flagship program for grades 7 – 12. Running from September through April, students have the opportunity to learn and grow in their instrument with some of the best teaching artists in central Ohio through combos and big bands.

Are There Any Jam Sessions?

Yes! Join the jam or take in the music at our bi-monthly jam sessions. Open to all and for all, these jams are free with registration.
