Columbus Jazz Orchestra Member Audition | Trombone 4, Bass Trombone

The Columbus Jazz Orchestra (CJO) announces the audition of Trombone 4 effective for the 2027/2028 season. To be considered for an invitation to submit recordings, highly qualified candidates should submit a resume/work history no later than November 10, 2026 through the Columbus Jazz website form seen below. No phone calls, please.

Semi-finalist candidates will be chosen and invited to submit recordings November 17, 2026. Finalist candidates will be invited to perform with the CJO on a Spring 2026-27 season concert (all rehearsals and performances, paid at union scale). Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate should:

  • have experience performing bass trombone at a professional level in a variety of jazz styles
  • have appropriate sight-reading skills
  • be accomplished as a soloist/improvisor
  • be comfortable doubling on tuba

Internship Opportunities

Columbus Jazz offers a general arts management internship, with an emphasis on education and community programming. You’ll gain experience across many roles and duties, work alongside passionate jazz leaders, and help bring our community events and programs to life.
